In the autumn perennials ask a lot of maintenance. Cut faded stalks that are very ugly they may be short and protect those species that are not fully hardy. Try putting a layer of conifer branches on the ground near the roots, or disperse soil between the plants. Decaying stems and leaves of perennials in the fall you should leave as much as possible to prevent frost damage can cause later. Only where the dead plant mass evergreens can suffocate the plants must cut short, but then compensate by spreading compost around the roots.
